Lula to push for opening of South Korean market to Brazilian beef
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s upcoming Asian tour will include discussions on a potential agreement to allow Brazilian beef exports to South Korea. The president will begin his trip in India, where he is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will then travel to Seoul, where he will be received by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
According to diplomatic sources cited by Metrópoles, negotiations for access of Brazilian beef to the South Korean market have been ongoing for more than 25 years without concrete progress. South Korea is considered a demanding market with strong domestic resistance from local producers. “Brazil is knocking on our door to unlock this agreement, but there is significant resistance from our local producers,” a source involved in the talks said.
While Brazil has consolidated its position as the main supplier of poultry meat to South Korea, the Asian country remains reluctant to open its market to Brazilian beef.
